Buzz Factor: Next Generation of Hip-Hop

So at different times every year magazines and websites like to ask what rapper’s are you looking forward too? I guess this is no different except I feel that with each year this question gets harder and harder to answer. Every day I log onto these hip hop websites I see new songs from new artists I have never heard of and few months later it’s a whole new batch of new artists and I end up not hearing from the previous batch of new artists. Point being it’s hard to standout in this crowded hip hop landscape these days especially when the hip hop market share is decreasing.

So everyday I go on the Internet I see a few new names popping up consistently over the past whatever amount of months and then I see a few old names. Below is a list of the artist’s I am seeing pop up all over the Internet these days. Let me know which one’s you are actually looking forward too and also where you are from. Write-ins are allowed but not encouraged. Unless you are getting crazy placements on the internet (nah-right, hiphhopgame, worldstar, etc.) don’t tell us to look out for you. I am talking real buzz.

Charles Hamilton
Mickey Factz
Maino
Max B
Cory Gunz
Joell Ortiz
Glasses Malone
Asher Roth
Wale
Crooked I
Termanology
Skyzoo
Torae

I know I missed some people on this one but seriously let me know. Who’s music do you really like that is new? What does it take for these artist’s to rise above the rest?

Well. As much as I would like to throw myself in the list you mentioned above you already made the rule i couldn’t so instead i’m going to answer the 2nd question. “What does it take for these artists to rise above the rest?” Being an Accountant major that does music i actually have an all around understanding of what it takes when it comes to the music business. Because i do both i understand the key factors that make a hit artist that will have longevity in the industry. First the artist has to be unique in a few ways(vocals, lyrics, life story, etc). If they continue doing that it makes listeners want to take a look at them more instead of everybody else. Second they have to be able to make a succesful or a hit song. Their whole cd could be banging with a capital B but if they don’t choose a good or unique commericial or radio song people will have second thoughts on checking out the rest of their music. Third they have to be marketable. They either have to have the “swag”, the good looks,a great dancer, or have a unique look. Thats why their are quite a few one hit wonders in the industry that you haven’t heard from since that one song or that one cd that you liked. They had the ability to make a hit song or record but they didn’t market themselves well. I hope this answers at least one of your questions. ~D-Smooth– Knows the answers to the music enigma, but still waiting to be drafted in the league~
