Blog #6: The Mobile Music Challenge
What’s up Guys?
It’s crazy to see this summer winding down but we got a lot of new stuff coming for the fall so I am excited to get into it. Thanks for all the feedback on the last post.
With the music industry changing in terms of the formats for the music we purchase and all of the new technology people are searching for what’s next. The advent of the ipod and mp3 players as not only music players but as places for digital storage has been the most successful source to store music and anything digital. I have been using a thumb drive or usb drive to keep all of my music and documents with me on the go and I love it. Do you guys use USB drives? What kind of storage devices do you use for music? Also with all of these cell phones being able to store mp3’s space on these devices become a real issue. Are you guys familiar with the micro SD cards that have storage space in the cell phones? Does anyone use those to keep the excess information and music on their phone? If the iphone is indicative of the future where we all carry one device do you envision being able to keep everyone on one device even if that means your phone has to be bigger than an ipod to have both phone capabilities and store 80gb’s of music? Music is going hand in hand with technology these days and it is really exciting.

Technology is definitely changing the way the public receives and enjoys music… It’s almost like a Fast food solution to hearing your favorites : “what you want, when you want it” type of mentality…
Is it a good thing ???, on most occasions I might be inclined to say yes, it is, but I gotta be totally honest, I love the old school tapes (hitting the flip button to hit ya favorite track on the other side of the tape, rewinding, then fast-forwarding because you went too far LMAO, where artists were more inclined to put out a COMPLETE BODY OF WORK because, if the album was Hot, you were GONNA LISTEN TO THE WHOLE JUMPOFF!!!! not just one or two tracks to download on your ipod, or sell as a ringtone LMAO!!!!!). I love watching the reels go round as one of my dudes is ripping a track apart, I miss having to take the tape out and re-wind up the tape with a pencil because my Tape deck gets so much burn…
And most importantly, to me at least, I MISS THE LEGENDARY VINYL DJ (or should I say endangered species of DJ lmao!!!!), cutting, scratching, blending, transforming on that wax, so a MC like me can spaz out and look at my peeps like “Yo son, did you just see what duke did !!!!!!” (can an ipod do that ????) … I mean it ain’t like Technology ain’t “advancing” and “progress” is generally in everyone’s best interest, but is it the best thing for REAL QUALITY MUSIC ????? HMMMMMMM, Good Question Right ????
-SHOUTS TO THE DJ, SHOUTS TO THE MC, SHOUTS TO HIP HOP- (”shouts to my iphone” , just don’t sound the same ya dig)… lmao

ive got tons of those thumb drive, and got a couple external hard drives with all my music for my serato, i kinda like the change and kinda dont, i would rather see vinyl spining then a computer program, but where in america so of course things will always be changing… i just hope my vinyl is worth some cake in the long run……….
but yeah all these gadgets, take away from our culture, but then again they need our culture cause they know when we go buy it, we will pimp the phone or ipod out, and then it becomes a fashion accessory, ive seen a dude come up to me and be like yo, heres my cd right here link you shit to mine check it out, so yeah its crazy

I use a little Samsung MP3 player I got for $5 after rebate from Circuit City a few years ago. I can load my beats up to it, whether they are wav or mp3.
I can also record through the built in mic so I can whistle a synth line or freestyle a verse I just thought of. Then
I can go back later and write it down. I always write my ideas down, so this allows me to catch my ideas when I got no paper or pen.
