Blog #7: Stop Cheating!
What’s up guys?
I wanted to write you today to discuss a very serious issue on Loud.com. During the voting process we have noticed that seems to be a lack of respect for each other on the site. People are voting each other’s contest entries down so they don’t reach the heights they are worthy on the leaderboard. There is also the problem of people posting multiple entries to that point that they take up 20 consecutive spots on the leaderboard. Some are even going so far as to setup ghost accounts on the site. This all has to stop. Even if you have 20 songs posted it doesn’t make your chance of winning any highher. When we see that we will just take a listen to 19 other contestants.
There is no reason to sabotage another person’s chance to win. We are going to find the best submissions each round regardless of what tactics you guys use. Everyone play fair and let’s have fun.

I got a lot of respect for you Mr Rifkin, You put out some of the hottest cats ive ever heard in my life…Big Pun, Wu tang, TS.Akon…the list goes on…The cheating on the site is not the only problem…I personaly feel like there is a lot of talent that is being overlooked.
I love loud.com, I log on everyday and spent hours on the site vibing witht he community networking and building with up my team…I love Rap Music…I love to make rap…nomatter what life may bring my way..I allways keep a pen and a pad and write every chance I get…WIth the recent adding of the production contest ive been able to network with producers and take my music to the next level. Im working very hard trying to make music worthy of your approval…and I know Im not the only one…
When tuesday come and the winner is announced and it ends up being someone that the community has no relationship with, someone who has never asked us for a vote, has not dropped a comment on the B board, in other words does not exist in the community it makes us wonder what the hell is going on with the judges….
when it goes down like that..it makes me wonder if im even being heard…We get no feedback from the judges…no reason why we where not picked…nothing….after putting in work during the first contest..and doing the same for the second contest with no results..an artist might feel like they doing this in vain….
I know everybody cant win…thats a given…..But if everyone gets listened to..and a choice is made to move forward with that artist or not…there has to be a reason why….and I think with all the hard work we put in..each artist needs to know why or why not they have been chosen..
It would benefit everyone…Because if the A&Rs can write down why they did not chose an artist then that means they have a legit reason why not to pick that person…Moreover, if the artist knows why he is not picked he can take that and make the necessary ajustments and believe me there will be a lot more good shit coming out of the community…
Mr. Rifkin get more bang for your buck..make the judges write down why they dont pick artist. that will insure that they are listening to everyone…and the quality of music will go up from the community….we work hard on loud.com and we all deserve to know why we are not picked…

I’m just glad that you addressed the issue. I see alot of conspiracy theories bein’ told. Due to the cheating,
I’ve seen legitimate emceez leave the site with a sour taste in their mouth. I’ve been here since contest 1, so I witnessed it all. I’ve even seen people question your company’s integrity. I’ve seen the ghost accounts, I’ve been a victim of bein’ voted down. No lie, in the first round I spoke on it and 1 of my loud.com affiliates told me not to worry. He str8 up told me hate is the new love. So I took that and ran with it. As for the artist droppin more than 1 entry, I think there should be a limit. And I think Rich and his crew (keep up the great work) should have a limit implemented so you could only post up 2-3 songs. Becuz last round was a lil ridiculous. But to each’s own. I ain’t hatin. Becuz if u feed a bunch of hungry wolves one slab of meat guess wut some of em will fight for that meat. So some cats will do wut they gotta do to get that top spot. Other than those issue, everything about this site has been a great experience. I met some cool people through this site. Thanks for the opportunity!

I’m the best artist on this site!!! But I don’t understand why you have rappers voting on rappers period. I hate rappers.. People are hungry and use any method to get heard. I don’t vote people’s tracks down and i’m not going to sit here and have people vote my music less then what it is.. I think you guys should just have artist submit and listen to them.. Your missing the best artist because they don’t make the top 20

A rich person could blow his self up that dosen’t need backing & has great music, so i feel that you guys should be looking for the hottest tracks. I run my own small underground lable here in Detroit and from what i heard none of these artist are going to sell any records! Everybody trying to run around and play Gangsta with the fake dope and B.S my question “why you rapping if the dope game so good?” I’m tired of hearing this crap and its killing our youth and isn’t showing anything positve to people.. Now i make Gangsta tracks to but I make Gangsta music look fun and do more then that type of music plus deliver a message through pain that shows a positive light to help people get out of the ghetto life. Anybody can make a record about how tough you are ,killing,guns and a bunch of stupid shit!! 99% of artist don’t even live that life.. Catch them on the street they don’t even have no work no guns not even a damn car.. all they do is rap!!

I can honestly state in writing I only operate 1 profile and one only, I had another one under a different name but my PC crashed I had to reformat and lost the file that contained my log in info so I was forced to make another. Although the previous profile had NO uploaded tracks, NO votes, NO participation whatsoever I only browsed the site this was before the contest even began. My previous profile is now closed due to inactivity and you cannot even view it or go into it.
On that note I do not cheat, I give honest votes, I ACTUALLY LISTEN TO ALL THIS MUSIC AND I ENJOY IT. It’s a nice change from the onslaught of churned out radio & video product that has been polluting our airwaves for a long time.

Despite this some artists get shine that aren’t even a majority favorite.
I am going to agree with the most hated at the moment obae and say that he is right maybe they just aren’t feelin some of you. They have their vision, you have yours.
You could argue that marketing is part of the grind and if you are clever enough to manipulate the system it’s obvious you will get ahead, what did our president do? Keep it real.
On the other hand you could argue about fairness, but that is an argument I can dive into…it’s not fair some people are suffering in hurricane shelters while I am sitting here nice and cozy…it’s not fair that a crack head can never shake the habit…it’s not fair that the old lady with the dried up $%#%$#@ can’t do her thing anymore…it’s not fair they executed Big Tookie.

Thanks Steve for the post, but I’ve always felt that the judges should do the voting and a limit should be put on how many songs you can enter. i mean if a mf put on 30 tracks and others put on 1 to 4 songs, who’s gonna win. it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out with this system.
i will say that i have met good people on here, its just a shame that this seems like it could be a good thing, but in reality its all turning out to be a game. also i’m with some of the others. why is it that we never get as much as a feedback statement. we do put in a lot of time on your site i think we deserve better for that alone. this is not myspace where you know you’re just networking. your main focus is to win that money and that deal. is this false advertisement in disguise to help you along with your get rich quick scheme or is it to help up comin artists find a vehicle to get heard by someone that respects the industry?
Inquiring minds want to know!!! i think this thing would work if the system was reworked and let the judges do the voting. i know some people vote me down, its all good though i know what i got and who i am. what i am is blessed and my day is near whether you listen to me or not.

TOO LITTLE TOO LATE!!
It’s too hard for this to be a fair competition. I’m a producer, so not too concerned about the rap contest, but most ppl on here are. There’s no way that you should be allowed to vote on the your competition. I mean, theres a only a few “Real” people out there that will keep it 100 and vote fairly, but most people see compeition as a threat, and when you dangle that 100 stacks in front of they faces, then things will sho nuff get grimey.. I can’t believe that Steve (if it’s really him) would post that bullshit with the way this whole competition is set up.. I mean, shid why bother if the judges are going to decide the winner any way. Plus, i heard that niggas got software similiar to myspace friend blaster, that will go out and add friends and increase your votes. What part of the game is that? So how can you blog about cheating when its shit like that going on and you give the round to the mufuckaz that’s cheating? C’mon dawg be forreal.. But like I said I’m in the producers contest and mufuckaz do be voting down to boost them up, so that’s why you shouldn’t be allowed to vote on your competition. Rappers should vote for producers and vice versa. That’s the best way because we as producers have to work with artists all the time. And am I the only one who thinks that $15,000 is kinda lowballin the producers. I mean, yall gonna rape us out of copyrights and publishing any way, so how come the artists get 100 stacks!! But real talk, I feel like im in the top 3 outta all the producers on this, but I won’t get into that right now, I’m just vexed at how this nigga gonna blog about cheating when ya’ll prolly got the artist already handpicked.. Bridgeport man shares life’s journey in music and words

I just had an interesting conversaton with a Bridgeport man, who wanted to tell me about the new album and upcoming book he’s written - an autobiography about rising above a violent environment. I know Bridgeport is a bit farther south than the Middlesex County and Shoreline towns I usually blog about, but since it’s my home town I thought I’d give a fellow Park City resi- a chance to tell his story.
Deshawn Lamont Harper, who told me he grew up in Virginia, spent a few years in Atlanta, Ga. before his family moved to Bridgeport. It was in Connecticut that he said he started writing lyrics he describes as rhythm and poetry (which I just figured out stands for RAP, DUH, my dumb!) He recorded three different albums titled “Bread and Budda”, “From Pain to Blessing” and most recently, “It Takes a Hood to Raise a Child.” Here are images from two of his album covers…
Deshawn, who is 30 now, seemed pretty pumped up about his work - but a little nervous too and not sure about how to tell me all he wanted to say. I thought he did okay for a cold phone call to someone he didn’t even know.
“The first album “From Pain to Blessings,” has songs dedicated to President George Bush another album is titled “Bread and Budda,” on that one I have songs dedicated to the Senator of Bridgeport - (ex-State Senator) Ernest Newton and (former Bpt.) Mayor John Fabrizzi,” Deshawn said about two controversial Bridgeport leaders who made media headlines quite a bit over the past few years. “They went through a lot of ups and downs. Hopefully they will turn around and do the right things.”
The third album is about how Deshawn has tried to turn himself around by taking his personal experiences and using them toward creating a more positive life. He said he formed his own publishing company called Dark Legion Publishers/Mystory Entertainment. This third album and the upcoming autobiograpy he’s written with the same title, represents his life’s journey, he said, a chance to get the things in his head out there - things he’s seen and experienced, but could never talk about in the open without feeling like a “snitch.”
“I’m walking through a real life book right now, you have to capture the moment and don’t let it go,” he said of the book, which he hopes to see published within the next few months. “The story is about a young man growing up in a neighborhood, going through everyday experiences…changing his life from violence to an entrepreneur life.”

I’ll keep my eye out for this book, could be an interesting read.

After thinking about this posting for a while, I guess I feel like puttin up my thoughts too, like anybody else…
Hummm…. Why can competitors vote for/against each other again?? Like a lot of people said, that’s where the real issue iz! It’s really puttin the artists in the situation of a catch 22. Don’t vote people down, cuz we see it, n it’s bad n unfair (n I do fully agree with that); but then they will vote U down, n you won’t get ur material heard (cuz gotta make it to that top 20, right??). Honestly what r u supposed to do?? True. they are some kidz playin around here, still livin with mom & dad, n if they don’t win, oh well, they’ll finish college next year… But how about the true MCs? How about the ones who get up every morning n gotta go out n grind to sell their music to make their bread, n support their family… Might not be the majority, but there ARE some people here for whom, this is not just a competition, it’s their life on the line. How about them? They should jus let other people blow their chances away??
Like I said I don’t support that, but I think it’s jus unavoidable… Whatever happens, n whoever did what, at the end of the day, we all hope the judges WILL SEE who shines thru, n make the right pick !
P.S. By the way, I’m not gonna lie, I did vote some people “down” (if I may say)… but those were honest votes, cuz while there is some talent around, some of these niggaz out here SUCK man, leaderboard or not!! WACK is WACK, no matter how fair u wanna be!

Thanks for your post. I felt bad for the longest time cause I only had one entry. I know it’s not a winning entry, but I do think it’s better than a lot that is out there. I’m just happy (and honored) that it finally made the top 50 and put me on the leaderboard. I never imagined I would make it this far in this round. I’ve done a lot of work contacting people on the site and I hope that is not considered spam. I’ve tried to keep it real and give an honest vote for fellow rappers…a fire deserves a fire and I’ve given them out to guys ahead of me on the leaderboard.
I do think that tonight I may have victim to the type of cheating you are talking about. I quickly dropped from #16 to off the leaderboard which required my song falling several spots on the charts. I don’t see how that many negative votes would come in during a short period of time when I’ve done so well this week. I hope the admins investigate and ban anyone who is caught cheating the system.
